Do you smoke weed?
Very casually. I don’t make a point of buying or subscribing to cannabis culture, but if it’s being passed around a party I occasionally will have a hit or two. |

Darling, I just wanted to tell you that you are flawless and I want to hug you very much right now. We must hit NYC sometime soon. Okay, you can go back to your regularly scheduled tumbling now.
I WISH I COULD. Internet hugs are not the same. Goodness I miss you, and I’m heading to the City around Late June or July. Let’s be reunited! |

“I never in my life worked with a woman who had the smell of drama that this woman has. She is so feminine— she’s a man’s woman.” … It was late at night. Two or three more days of shooting remained. Hepburn had been in bed since 8. Wayne, as usual, had a bottle of Commemerativo tequila in front of him. “Imagine,” he mused softly, “how she must’ve been at age 25 or 30… how lucky a man would’ve been to have found her.”

So, I really don’t understand the problem with ‘white girls’ wearing bindis. If other cultures can westernise their style and beliefs then why cant we easternise and embrace their culture. There is a massive double standard with these issues, why is sporting the ‘tribal’ trend perfectly fine but adorning ones forehead with a bindi ‘offensive and racist.’ Surely it would be more offensive if white girls rejected any kind of differences we have between each other instead of attempting to show a simple appreciation for other cultures.
EXACTLY
I’m going to lay this out in bullet form because I’m not feeling well, but I think I can help you understand cultural appropriation a little bit maybe.
- Bindis have religious significance
- meaning they’re important culturally
- white people have systematically oppressed pretty much every minority in the world ever
- it’s ironic and even disrespectful to ignore that sort of history in order to wear a bindi
- that’s why some people in marginalized groups get mad.
- because they’re like, “that shit actually MEANS sommat to me and this persyn is erasing my history by taking sommat I find culturally/spiritually significant and turning it into their fashion statement”
- I mean not EVERY persyn in minority groups are that attached to their cultural traditions etc
- but what I’m saying that if you encounter someone who gets mad about we can’t just ignore their feelings because they have a point there.
- sporting the “tribal” trend ISN’T okay if you’re asking me (and from an appropriation angle)
- when we say “westernize” we mean McDonald’s.
- So are we saying we hold spiritual attachment to McDonald’s?
- Because we don’t. It isn’t comparable.
- Are we talking denim jeans??
- Because we don’t wear jeans because of our religion.
- So it isn’t comparable.
- Apple pie? Gluttony? Capitalism? Like… what western tradition that is implied by the word “westernize” is even able to be appropriated??
- Like are we saying that if someone wears a cross and isn’t Catholic that it’s a problem?
- Well for me persynally it kind of is.
- Because that means sommat for some people and I wouldn’t want to disrespect a religion that others care about when I don’t even believe in God.
- I say “oh my cat goddess” instead of “oh my god” because I realize that sort of thing has significance to some people.
- and I mean, there is a difference between appropriation and appreciation.
- and if you go to an east Indian wedding and they tell you “please wear this sari it’s totally cool I want you to do this for our wedding” then that’s a space where it would be okay for you to wear your bindi and all of that jazz
- but don’t assume everyone is going to give you that sort of permission.
